FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Hundreds of people gathered at Catholic Cemetery on Fort Wayne's East Side for a prayer service on Sunday.

The organization sponsoring the service was 40 Days For Life. Members of that pro-life campaign recognized each abortion that has taken place in Fort Wayne in the past year.

The ceremony featured speakers from Evangelical, Lutheran and Catholic faiths. They urged the public to help women find alternatives to abortion.

Group members say their campaign focuses on three objectives which include 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigils at abortion facilities and grassroots educational outreach.

Fort Wayne is one of more than 200 communities in the world to have an established campaign.

One of the supporters of 40 Days For Life is Kris Opper who had an abortion at the age of 18, but now regrets it.

"It's not a right of privacy," said Opper. "That child is a living human."

While abortion is an issue of sometimes heated national debate, the prayer service was not interrupted, and it was wrapped up late this afternoon.

No pro-choice supporters were on hand to have their voices heard at the event.
