Huntington Teens Arrested Wednesday Linked to String of Vandalism

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Police have arrested three Huntington teens they say are responsible for the recent string of vandalism that caused more than $20,000 in damages.

Huntington County police say that while the boys were committing one crime Wednesday night they were caught and arrested and wound up confessing to a whole lot more.

Police say an 18-year-old and two 17-year-olds shot out a glass door and windows while breaking into a rural Markle business, D & S Production Services, sometime after 7 P.M. Wednesday.

A witness saw them and called police, but when county officers arrived the witness told them the boys had fled across a field and into the woods nearby.

Police say they found all three teens hiding in the woods with BB guns.

We're told the boys had removed the required orange tips for a more realistic look.

Police say that's illegal and dangerous. Because police often think suspects are armed with a more powerful weapon.

During questioning police say the 18-year-old confessed to something else, shooting out up to 50 cars and building windows with the other two boys in Huntington recently.

Chief E.J. Carroll with the Huntington Police Department says, “Well, there is harm to this. Like I said, it's approximately $20,000 worth of damage that's been done. These home owners and business owners are responsible for that. If they have insurance, those things are being taken care of. If not, they're paying these things out of their own pocket."

We're told that the three are being charged with criminal mischief and residential entry, but that could change as the investigation continues.
