March 25, 2014 Updated Mar 25, 2014 at 12:02 PM EDT

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (21Alive) -- Both lanes of southbound I-69 at the 270 mile marker near Huntington were closed Tuesday morning after numerous crashes and slide offs in that area.

That section of I-69 was re-opened around noon Tuesday.

The Indiana State Police were urging motorists to avoid the area and to seek an alternate route of travel.

The Indiana State Police say "remember, the weather doesn't cause crashes, driving behavior does".
