FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Engines have fired up for the last time at the I-69/Gas City speedway this year, as the remainder of the season has been canceled.

Earlier this month, the promoter of the speedway, Mel Botkin, suddenly quit out of financial reasons. Today, the group announced on their website that they are cancelling the remainder of the season. This is the second raceway in the area to cancel their races this year, as Baer Field speedway also cancelled their season.

No word if the I-69/Gas City raceway will attempt a comeback next year.
