Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- You might be seeing more flashing lights in your rear view mirror this summer.
Traffic violators beware. The Indiana State Police has launched a new enforcement program to reduce the number of people killed on the roads especially in more rural areas.
State police are cracking on a disturbing trend a growing number of deadly collisions on rural roads.
They want you to follow the rules of the roads to avoid getting a ticket or losing your life.
Fatalities are the most difficult part of their job.
Senior Trooper Chris Harcourt with the Indiana State Police says, "That's why we care so much that we're out here trying to use these tools to get people to slow down for us so we don't have to do that as much."
Lt. John Smithers also with the Indiana State Police says, "One less person dead is one less person dead. And if that's all we acoomplish that's what we're shooting for. We'd like to make a more significant impact, but one less is even important."
Troopers will be looking for drivers speeding, following too closely and cutting people off.
So, if you break the law don't be surprised if you see the flashing lights in your rear view mirror.
