INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – It appears Indianapolis could be just days away from mandatory water restrictions.

Violating the restrictions could cost hundreds of dollars in fines.

Voluntary restrictions have helped, but are not enough. Customers of Citizens Water used nearly 9 percent less water over the weekend.

However, some appear to continue watering at will. Reservoirs are still dropping, and with no rain in the forecast customers should expect more drastic measures.

Statewide, the Department of Natural Resources estimates more than 550,000 homes depend on well water and like city water customers, they need rain as well.
