LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) - Leaders from LaPorte Community Schools in northern Indiana responded to a lawsuit filed against them.

The $18.7 million dollar lawsuit was filed last week by the family of a teenage female student who had a sexual relationship with her volleyball coach when she was 15.

School leaders say she voluntarily engaged in the action, assuming risk.

The family claims LaPorte School leaders ignored signs that the two were involved and didn't properly supervise employees or provide a safe environment.

Robert Ashcraft received a 21 year sentence last July on charges of child seduction and sexual misconduct.
