FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - It turns out not we're not the only ones who enjoyed a much warmer than usual start to spring.

According to pest control company Orkin, they've seen their number of calls increase 40-percent over last year.

Pest experts say the early spring weather brought bugs out 60-days earlier than usual.

While the company does free home inspections, there are lots of things you can do to help fight off pests like ants and mosquitoes.

Orkin Operations Manager William Fryman says, “Keep moisture away from the house, good drain spouts, drainage away from the house. Firewood stored up against the house, termites eat wood, when you have wood stacked against the house it gives them a food source right against the house.”

While ants are the #1 reported problem, orkin has also seen increases in mosquitoes and termites in our area.
