UNDATED (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - If you do set off your own fireworks in the backyard you may want to think twice before defy the fireworks ban, and going ahead with your own backyard fireworks display.
Not only are you risking a fine, you may not be covered under your homeowner's insurance policy if you happen to start a fire.
The Indiana Insurance Commissioner says several insurance policies will deny coverage for illegal acts committed by the person that is insured.
And since shooting off fireworks is a finable offense, if you accidentally set fire to your home or your neighbors you may not be covered.
However, if "your" property is damaged by someone who's shooting off fireworks you still may submit a claim.
