Kendallville, Ind. (Indiana's Newscenter) - Kendallville City Council members voted Tuesday to ban the distribution of K2 as well as the chemical involved in making it in their district.
Council members voted unanimously in the first of three readings against the drug. They cited safety concerns for those using it, as their reasoning.
Certain retailers sell K2 as incense, but most users smoke it to get a marijuana-like high.
The council will reconvene in two weeks for the second reading, with another slated two weeks after that. If they still have enough votes, K2 will then officially be banned.
The key ingredient in the drug has already been banned in five-states.
Grant Manon, a youth advisor to the mayor, said he has seen increase use of k-2 by high schoolers.
Councilman Regan Ford said he feels surrounding counties need to implement a ban in order for Kendallville's to be effective.
Fort Wayne City Council is also currently considering a ban.
