FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- To try and fight obesity, the Fort Wayne Junior League held a Kids in the Kitchen event at the Boys and Girls Club.
Kids and parents got to move around to different stations to learn about healthy eating habits.
Organizers emphasized snacks, portion size, sugar intake, and physical activity.
“The research has shown that some of those diseases start early,” says Kate Virag, of the Fort Wayne Junior League, “We have too much childhood obesity out there and it does lead to asthma, it leads to diabetes. We want to have this information early in their life and start setting those examples and start those healthy habits now.”
Organizers say educating young children now will lead to a lifetime of healthy decisions.
