FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The weather this summer is leaving some businesses drying up along with the grass. One Fort Wayne landscaping company has laid off 10 people because of how the weather has impacted their business.
The owner of Vision Scapes says they are doing about 50 percent less mowing this summer because most of the grass is dead.
They are however still doing other landscaping jobs. They are laying mulch, planting shrubs and building patios. They also have mowing contracts with some businesses that have irrigation systems.
Despite the lack of work this summer Mark Nolet says they will get through this tough time.
"We're strong enough and smart enough to outlast the weather and we'll just adjust, like I said, the outdoor living has really exploded, you know nobody's really planting but people are spending their money on patios and pergolas," said Mark Nolot, Owner, Vision Scapes.
Nolet says they’re generally coming into the summer with a stronger cash flow because of snow plowing. He said this year, because of the mild winter; they came into the summer season on fumes.
Nolet also says, even if we get rain, the grass won't grow enough to give them the work they need to make up for what they've lost this summer.
