Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A warmer than usual fall means fewer drivers are preparing for the winter season. It may be a natural reaction but it's not something mechanics advise.
Richard Fox, owner of Fox & Fox in Fort Wayne, says although it's December the mild weather has put many car owners off when it comes to winterizing their cars.
The major items Fox suggests having checked out include tires, coolant and wiper blades. Fox says low tread on tires can cause problems when the roads get slick. Making sure the antifreeze is mixed correctly is also something he highly recommends. With wiper blades Fox says drivers should make sure the motors are working properly.
"Now's the time, before the weather is bad to look at all of these systems in the car that are going to be important when it gets very cold, very slippery, or bad conditions. Now's the time to get these systems all checked over and make sure they're in good shape," said Richard Fox, Fox & Fox.
Fox says although more luxury items like seat heaters can be nice to have repaired for the colder months they are often not a safety concern and don’t impact other functions of the car.
