NEW ORLEANS (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - More than a million people are expected to throw away their inhibitions and party like rock stars as Fat Tuesday kicks off this year's Mardi Gras celebration down in New Orleans.
A record number of people are expected to attend this year's celebration which is great news for a community still battling back after Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill.
This year's party co-incides with college spring break and the weather is looking good. So it'll likely be a great time for everyone.
And one local bakery is celebrating New Orleans style.
Indiana’s NewsCenter spent the morning with folks over at Richard's Bakery as they whipped out their sweet, and juicy King Cakes and Paczki for consumers.
Kelly Carter of Richard's Bakery says, “It's a very, very busy day. We start at about 3 in the morning, getting Paczki dough ready so it can go in the frier. We have all kinds of customers that come in. We have festivities. We like to dress up a little bit. It's a celebration here at Richard's.”
By the way Richard's pumped out more than 50 King Cakes and more than 100 dozen Paczki dough pastries.
