FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- While touring The Salvation Army’s local office, Nancy Tumbleson, iAB Vice President and Regional Branch Administrator, and Gary Shearer, President and CEO of Tower Trust Company, were able to witness the success of The Salvation Army’s Tools for School program.

With donations of school supplies from the banks’ colleagues, customers, and the general public, hundreds of backpacks will be filled with supplies and donated to children heading back to school in August. The Tools for Schools program provides classroom supplies for the success of disadvantaged children and helps to compensate for some of the basic expenses by supplying them with school supplies such as book bags, notebooks, pens, and pencils for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade.

As part of an Indiana Bankers Association (IBA) leadership development program, Tumbleson and Shearer combined efforts and developed Bankers Supplying Future Leaders. In a partnership with The Salvation Army, this initiative increased the reach of the Tools for School program by turning 23 bank branches into official drop-off locations.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the iAB Financial Bank staff for collecting hundreds of school supply items,” stated Tumbleson. “These items will make a difference in the success of students in our local communities this coming school year.”

“Buying new clothes and shoes aren’t the only struggles for families this time of year. It can be a hardship finding ways to pay for even the most basic supplies,” continued Shearer. “This year’s Tools for School program will help local children start off their school year with the supplies they need to succeed.”

The Salvation Army will begin taking applications for assistance August 13th through August 14th. For additional information on eligibility, please contact the local Allen County office.

Tumbleson and Shearer are both completing Indiana Banker’s Association’s Leadership Development Program. IBA’s intensive 8-month program is geared to motivate and accelerate leaders in the Indiana banking industry. From learning core leadership and management concepts, to public-speaking, crucial thinking and strategic planning, students graduate with a new confidence of refined leaders.
