MUNSTER, Ind. (21Alive) -- The first U.S. patient infected with the deadly MERS virus is currently recovering and improving, according to health officials during a press conference today.

The patient is still in isolation at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana and is in "good spirits" according to officials.

It was also reported that no other cases have been confirmed and all tests on people who came into close contact with the patient have come back negative.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a virus that was first seen in 2012 and it has generally been relegated to the middle east. However, it has now begun to spread, and has been found in over a dozen countries.

Health officials confirmed that the patient lives and works in Saudi Arabia but they have released few other details beyond that.
