NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (21Alive) -- A ceremony will be held this evening to celebrate 73 new students embarking on their four-year professional pharmacy doctorate at Manchester University.
The school's College of Pharmacy, which is located in Fort Wayne, is the only Pharm.D. program in northern Indiana with nearly 200 students. Over 600 qualified students applied for the program's 73 available seats this year, and over 100 were still on the waiting list by the time the seats were filled, according to school officials. The ceremony will see them receive their "white coats" to signify the beginning of their doctoral journey..
"Focus on service is a large part of what we do," said Joe Bonnarens, associate dean for student affairs at the College of Pharmacy. Students throughout their education learn the importance of communicating with patients, with real-life applications building on knowledge and skills gained in lectures and practice labs.
Classes begin August 4th for the College of Pharmacy.
