FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- There were more than 20 homicides in Fort Wayne in 2011 and a handful of them remain unsolved.

One year ago Friday January 13th, Aaron Thomas and another man were shot and killed.

Their killer remains on the loose.

Aaron’s mother Evonne, describes Aaron as a man who had a troubled past that included more than a decades worth of prison time but also as a caring, artistic man who had goals.

Aaron Thomas served time for being the lookout in a robbery gone bad that led to an execution style killing of an elderly Fort Wayne couple back in 1997.

Thomas served his time going in at the age of 15, earned his GED, as well Associates and Bachelors degrees while in the state pen.

His mother says that Aaron, despite his past, was willing to help anyone.

“A lot of people knew him by Melly-Mell, not Aaron. Aaron was outgoing, live person. Lively person that will help anyone.”

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, there are no new updates in the investigation.
