NEW HAVEN, IN (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The Indianapolis 500 may be a month away, but the city of New Haven is already celebrating.
New Haven is one of many Hoosier towns competing in the "Back Home Again in Indiana" contest.
Rain delayed their 500 Parade, but a good crowd managed to line the streets of downtown New Haven.
(R) Mayor of New Haven Terry McDonald says, “You know, we had a good parade, a lot of participation. A lot of people came out and championed through and so we're grateful for everybody coming out. Merle Bettenhausen, our parade Grand Marshal, is here from the Bettenhausen family of racing. And Colonel Augustine from the 122nd Fighter Wing and his people were out and we really appreciate that and a flyover, both two A-10s from the 122nd Fighter Wing was really spectacular.”
If New Haven wins the contest, city officials plan to use the $20,000 prize money to complete the Veterans Memorial in Schnelker Park.
