Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - It might seem like a petty crime, but leaders at the Downtown Improvement District say graffiti needs to be met, head on.
So the group is partnering with "Protechs" to provide Fort Wayne businesses downtown with free graffiti removal.
The company uses an eco-friendly technique to remove the spray paint in the "Clean and Green" program.
It's designed to eradicate urban blight and encourage active participation in keeping downtown beautiful.
Something community leaders say is important.
Frank Howard with the Downtown Improvement District says, “Graffiti usually develops within the alleyways first. But the more you let it take a foothold the more it will come out of the alleys and into the open streets, onto the faces of buildings. And that hurts economic development.”
Six buildings were cleaned last week and six more this week.
