FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Two “New Year” babies were welcomed into the world Sunday. A Baby boy named Parker, and baby girl named Piper, are the first babies to be born in Northeast Indiana in 2012.

With the new year come fresh starts, resolutions, and babies!

Parker Leeuw is the first child of Chris and Chrissy Leeuw. Parker was born at 12:40 Sunday morning at Parkview North Hospital in Fort Wayne. He weighs a whopping 9 lbs., 9 oz. and is 20 in. long. Parker’s original due date was December 26, but he arrived a little late. Mom, Chrissy, says she was in labor for nearly nine hours before doctors performed a caesarean section. Chrissy says the sex and name of the baby were a toss up.

“Originally when we were looking at names, we decided on "Skyler", but then Chris decided that he liked the name "Parker". Since we didn't know the sex of the baby I had picked out the girl's name and he had picked out the boy's name so I said since it's a boy you can go ahead and decide,” Chrissy said. Dad, Chris, chose the name "Parker" after his wife's maiden name.

“We’re pretty excited. We’re just happy that he’s here and that he’s healthy,” Chrissy said.

However, Parker wasn't the only baby born on New Year’s Day. Mother, Nicole, delivered a baby girl named Piper at 9:42 a.m. at Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne. Piper weighs 7 lbs. and 11 oz. and is 21 in. long. She is the third child of Nicole and Lucas Minehart of Auburn, Ind.

Nicole says they chose the name “Piper” because “she heard it one day and liked it.” On giving birth to a New Year baby, Nicole says the family is very excited. Piper was only one day past her due date. Nicole says they weren’t expecting that because her other two children were born later.

Both Chrissy and Parker, and Nicole and Piper, are doing well and are expected to be released sometime Monday.
