NOBLE COUNTY, Ind (www.incnow.tv) -- Noble County Prosecutor Steven T. Clouse has announced that criminal charges have been filed against Christina C. Zimmerman, Age 41, of the 8000 block of Angling Road, Kendallville, Indiana.
The charges filed on Tuesday afternoon Noble Circuit Court are: Theft, a class C felony, and Forgery, a class C felony. Noble County Sheriff’s Department Officers arrested Zimmerman without incident late Tuesday evening at her residence. Zimmerman has been held in the Noble County Jail since her arrest, pending her initial hearing in Circuit Court, which is expected to be at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday.
The charges each stem from the time period of April 1, 2005 to December 1, 2011, when Zimmerman is alleged to have been employed by a Noble County company. During the stated time frame, Zimmerman is alleged to have stolen funds in excess of $100,000 from the employer.
The criminal charges also allege that Zimmerman forged checks on her employers account and issued the checks to herself. In the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Noble County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Joe Hutsell alleges that Zimmerman used the embezzled funds to pay her personal expenses such as a credit card bill, and cell phone bill, The investigation into Zimmerman’s alleged criminal conduct began after her former employer reported perceived irregularities with their accounts.
“The charges filed on Tuesday are the culmination of a lengthy investigation by the Noble County Sheriff’s Department,” stated Prosecutor Clouse.
In the State of Indiana, a class C felony is punishable by a term of imprisonment of two to eight years and up to a $10,000 fine. Theft is normally a class D felony, but is enhanced to a class C felony when the amount of stolen property exceeds $100,000.
The fact that a person has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and all persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
