NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Parents of students attending Noblesville schools received a letter from administrators alerting them that one enrolled student has, by the State Department of Health’s definition, contracted a case of measles.
The student has exhibited symptoms of the disease and is not attending school at this time but has not been diagnosed by a doctor as of Tuesday afternoon. The student will not be allowed to return to school until the department of health and Noblesville Schools deems it safe.
As a precaution all areas of the school have been thoroughly cleaned to help prevent the spread of the virus, ensuring the safety of the other students and faculty.
Measles is extremely contagious. Symptoms may include cough, runny nose, drowsiness, loss of appetite, fever, spots inside the mouth that resemble grains of salt, and increased sensitivity to light. Around the fourth day of illness, a fever of 101 degrees or higher may appear, and a blotchy red rash will appear on the face and spread downward to the rest of the body.
Children who exhibit symptoms of measles are asked to contact their family physician immediately and not send their child to school. Physician can determine whether the symptoms are caused by measles.
