FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting earlier in June where a man was found dead outside of an American Legion Post.

Eric Jermaine Smith, 36, was take into custody late Friday on accusations of connection to the murder. The incident remains under investigation.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a fatal shooting the morning of June 9th.

According to officials, the shooting happened in the area of E. Lewis St. and S. Hanna St. When officers arrived, they found Jabron Totton, 37, lying in the parking lot of the American Legion, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The wounded victim was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials say that information available at this time indicates the victim had gotten into an argument inside the American Legion earlier in the evening, but the argument was suppressed. A short time later, the victim exited the bar and was shot as he was standing next to a vehicle.

Initial reports stated that it was unknown if the suspect was waiting for the man to come out, if the suspect was involved in the original argument or what exactly transpired.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

According to the Allen County Coroner this is the 23rd homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County of 2013.
