FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – As a way of providing transit services for its patients around Fort Wayne, Parkview Hospital has paired with Citilink to open the doors on their latest project - Medlink.
Sue Ehinger, President of Parkview Hospital says "we had a number of individuals in the community ask 'how can we get public transportation to the medical center for office visits, coming to even visit families in the hospital or patients in the hospital?’ It's just an easier access for them to use public transportation."
Betsy Kuchmar, the assistant General Manager at Citilink described the route by adding "everything that is true about all of the rest of public transit in Fort Wayne that is operated by Citilink is true for this new Medlink service as well."
The route is designed to run like any other. You pay $1.25 or use your Citilink card, but now it offers the opportunity to be connected from the Randallia location to the Parkview Regional Medical Center on DuPont road.
Kuchmar described the old drop-off site by saying "we could go to the Burger King, which is just right on the Fort Wayne city limit side of the street, across from the Parkview campus. So we would drop people off there and then either we would call or they would call Parkview security who would come pick them up. Needless to say, that's not optimum public transit. So we're looking at being able to make that better."
With the new route, buses will be able to drop off riders at 2 main doors right on the Parkview Regional Medical Center campus. Every bus will be handicap accessible and is labeled as route number "15." Buses will begin at the Parkview Randallia location on the hour, every hour from 8:00am to 5:00pm daily.
