FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The two awards earned by Parkview Hospital are for the success in getting vital information to victims of coronary heart disease and helping them in their recovery process.

The patients are started on aggressive "risk reduction" therapies, like cholesterol drugs, aspirin and beta-blockers, plus given information on stopping smoking and weight control.

Mike Stetzel with the American Heart Association says, “For us it says that Parkview has the best care. From the doctors to the nurses, everybody that works here at Parkview. They care about cardiovascular disease, they care about stroke and it's very important to them that they have the best care here for the patient when they come in.”

All vital factors in a successful recovery.

Parkview then awarded $2,500 to New Havens EMS Service for software and equipment used in transmitting heart information directly to the doctors in the hospital for faster diagnosis and treatment of heart problems during ambulance runs.
