Partying Teen Falls From 5th Floor Balcony

Indianapolis (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The teenager who fell from a fifth floor balcony near the campus of IUPUI has died as a result of his injuries.

According to WTHR police were responding to a report of loud music at a party around 3 a.m. Monday morning in the 900 block of West 10th Street.

When the officers arrived to the door they were informed that someone had fallen from the balcony.

The victim, 18-year-old Xavier Somerville, was said to have fallen face down onto the sidewalk below.

According to a police report, officers were told people inside the apartment were having a party and consuming large amounts of alcohol.

Witnesses told police Somerville got scared and tried to swing from the fifth floor balcony to the forth floor when he lost his grip and fell.

Police cited several other minors at the party for alcohol violations.

Somerville was transported to a nearby hospital for his critical injury but was unable to survive from the fall.
