MONTPELIER, Ind. (21Alive) – A pedestrian has died after being hit by a freight train in Montpelier just before 8 a.m., according to Blackford County officials.

Authorities say the victim was a woman around 29-years old, but they're not releasing her identity yet.

Nearby EMS crew members heard the train's brakes locking and its horn blaring when the fatal accident occurred.

Police are checking to see if security cameras at a nearby convenience store might have recorded anything related to the accident.
