FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Operators of a local bus station got a surprise Friday as a national petition drive found its way to their front door.
Local college business professor Shawn Ambrose delivered 8,000 signatures from "change.org" to the local operators.
At issue is an $18 "gift ticket fee" that Greyhound charges for bus tickets that a person buys for someone else as a "gift."
Ambrose points out that the fees aren't charged by other bus companies and is unfairly targeting lower incomes.
Ambrose says, “I think people are tired of being nickled and dimed to death, if you examine this fee it simply does not stand-up to scrutiny.”
Greyhound told INC that the fees are charged as a "handling fee" and to combat fraud.
Ambrose points out that the average ticket price is around $48, making the fee seem even more excessive, in his view.
