FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- Two men are in police custody after they led police on a pursuit through the southeast part of the city late last night, according to Fort Wayne Police.
The incident began with an Officer from the Fort Wayne Police Department attempting a traffic stop on an orange Chevrolet Avalanche. The Avalanche failed to stop and led police through several side street while driving erratically .
The pursuit eventually made its way southbound on S. Anthony Blvd. where the Avalanche continued to drive erratically. When the pursuit approached the intersection of E. Rudisill Blvd. the stop light was red but the Avalanche went around stopped traffic towards the intersection.
At this time, a Dodge Dakota carrying an adult male and adult female was travelling westbound on E. Rudisill and entered the intersection having a green light. The Avalanche collided with the Dakota and continued until it hit a tree and stopped. The driver was apprehended while walking away from the vehicle. The passenger ran off towards the 3900 block of Lillie St..
K9 Units were called in to assist in tracking the fleeing passenger. Around the time the K9 unit began tracking, a call came in about a burglary in progress in the 3900 block of Lillie St.. The K9 unit was able to track to the address where the burglary in progress was reported.
According to Police, the passenger of the Avalanche was found inside the home and apprehended. The passenger was found to have an active warrant and narcotics were also found inside the Avalanche.
The two occupants of the Dakota were transported an area hospital and remain in serious condition.
The two suspects from the Avalanche are being held for questioning. The Gang and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, the two suspects are known gang members according to Fort Wayne Police.
