FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Fort Wayne Police rescue a man from drowning whom they were trying to arrest.

Police say just after 12 a.m. Sunday, they were searching for a suspect who ran into the woods near Covington and Dickey Roads.

Officers found the man and yelled at him to stop, but the suspect jumped into a pond to escape.

The suspect then began to struggle and cried for help. An officer stripped down to his underwear and jumped in after the man and managed to bring him safely back to shore.

FWPD then arrested the suspect for public intoxication and resisting law enforcement. He was then taken to the Allen County jail, but not before thanking the officer for saving his life.
