FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church publicly addressed Sunday the lawsuit brought on by a teacher fired for using in vitro fertilization treatments.
Msgr. John Kuzmich spoke to parishoners at Masses, denying claims of discrimination brought against the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend and St. Vincent Catholic School by ex-teacher, Emily Herx.
Kuzmich says he did not call Herx a "grave, immoral sinner" when Herx was dismissed, as the lawsuit claims.
Kuzmich told the congregation that the Catholic Church does approve of some forms of fertility treatments, but noted procedures like in vitro fertilization are "gravely immoral."
Most of the parishoners gave Kuzmich a standing ovation at the end of his remarks; though many remained seated without giving applause.
