Remains Of War Veterans Receive Final Burial

MARION, Ind. (21Alive) – The remains of Civil War, World War I and World War II veterans were sent to the Marion National Cemetery.

The cremated remains of the veterans were recovered from an unclaimed storage vault by a special task force.

A special ceremony was held at the Veterans Park in Zionsville, then the remains were presented to the Post 79 American Legion Riders, who transported them to the cemetery for a final burial service.

The recovery effort is part of the "Missing in America Project's" nationwide effort to locate, identify and inurn the unclaimed remains of forgotten veterans.
