GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Grant County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police were called out at 5:00 am Thursday morning of report of two semi-tractor trailers colliding near the 59 mile-marker on I-69 in Grant County.
One semi hauling automotive parts who had just merged from the ramp onto northbound I-69 from State Road 22 had his trailer struck from behind by another semi hauling rolled coil aluminum.
It is believed the driver of the semi hauling the aluminum was looking at his navigation system and became distracted prior to the crash.
Both semis were strewn onto I-69 with one catching fire. Three other vehicles traveling northbound were also damaged after striking debris from the crash.
No injuries were reported but the driver of the semi hauling the aluminum was later transported to a Marion, Ind. hospital.
Both northbound lanes of I-69 were closed at the 59 mile-marker (Gas City exit) in Grant County. Currently, both northbound passing lane of I-69 are open.
