FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21 Alive) – Indiana U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly says the issues around the nation's southern border must be resolved quickly.

Senator Donnelly (D - Indiana) says Congress should work together to pass an emergency bill, one that processes illegal immigrants quicker.

He says the ultimate goal of the bill would be to send immigrants back home.

Donnelly also believes the U.S. should work more closely with the countries people are immigrating from in order to find a solution.

“I think that this was caused by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. [They] are the three primary places these young people came from and they were told in those countries that if you went to America you could get in. So it wasn’t what the President did in regards to those young people, it was that they were told specifically in their own countries,” said Sen. Donnelly.

Donnelly says the U.S. Senate is working on the most humane way possible to process the massive amounts of immigrants.
