September Was Cooler & Wet

September's come and past. Winter's approaching fast.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Wake up! September has ended. The ninth month of 2012 is in the record books, and it broke the trend of the hot, dry Summer before it. The average high temperature for the month was 74°, which is 2° cooler than average. The temperature reached 80° or higher on only 8 days during the month, all of which occurred in the first two weeks. The warmest days were on the 4th and 6th when high temperatures reached 87°.

Even the nights were cooler than normal with an average low of 51.7°. The average low in September is usually 52.6°. Many areas saw their first frost on the morning of the 24th. when temperatures dropped to 34°.

Rain made a big comeback in September as well. Total rainfall for the month was 3.61", almost an inch more than the average total of 2.8". Measurable rain fell on 12 days with 2 days having a total of at least 1/2" or more.
