VAN WERT, Ohi. (21Alive) -- A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate allegations against the former Van Wert County Dog Warden.

Rich Strunkenberg was fired last week by the Van Wert County Commissioners after a report indicated that Straunkenberg failed to provide adequate water, and food to the animals. After an inspection of the building, authorities discovered three dead dogs and six dead cats.

It has now been determined that Paulding County Prosecutor Joe Burkhart will now determine if charges will be filed.
