STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- A man crashed his car Friday night after veering off the road to avoid hitting a person alerting oncoming traffic, according to the Steuben County Sheriff's Department.

Forty-nine year-old Edward Duncan of Angola was driving his SUV and towing a utility trailer on CR 100 N. He said that a deer ran out onto the road in front of his vehicle. Duncan swerved to miss the deer, causing the trailer to break free from his SUV.

Police say that Duncan stopped at the bottom of a hill to reattach the trailer while 46 year-old Kenetha Duncan, a passenger in the vehicle, walked up the hill along the side of the road to warn oncoming traffic.

Forty-one year-old Daniel Shroyer drove over the hill and veered off the road to avoid hitting Kenetha Duncan, and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle rolled several times.

Both Shroyer and his passenger, 43-year-old Deanna Shroyer were thrown from the vehicle. Deanna was transported to Cameron Hospital in Angola, where she was pronounced dead. Daniel was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with non life threatening injuries.

Neither Edward or Kenetha Duncan were injured.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
