Survey Shows 1 In 4 Go To Work Sick

February 24, 2014 Updated Feb 24, 2014 at 4:18 PM EDT

UNITED STATES (21Alive) -- A survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults taken during this year's flu season revealed one in four workers always goes to work when they are sick.

Most said they would have too much to make up if they missed a day. Just as many said they couldn't afford to miss work and others said their boss expects them to come to work no matter how sick they are.

Co-workers didn't seem to mind. Many of the survey participants considered their sick co-workers to be hard workers.
