FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Shots rang out near downtown early Friday morning, killing 29-year-old Tiffany Mendez.
Quick response by a witness and Fort Wayne Police lead to a murder charge within hours of the death.
Fort Wayne Police responded to a "shots fired" call at 5:05 Friday morning in the area of Lindley and Parkview, near the GE building, just south of downtown.
Officers got there quickly, and found 19-year-old Patrick Rashad Fluker in a vehicle.
Moments later, they found Mendez' body near the railroad tracks.
Officer Scott Tegtmeyer says, “The vehicle stopped, a male suspect got out of the vehicle and fled through McCulloch Park, officers were coming from both directions, from the North and the South and they were able to stop a man who matched the description from this vehicle.”
Fluker is charged with murder and possession of stolen auto parts.
