FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Tax season is coming to a close. Tuesday is the deadline to file taxes, which means things are getting even busier for local CPAs.

Saturday at a local H&R Block office the tax advisors said because it was April 14 they saw a lot of traffic. They are even predicting Saturday’s turnout to be more than Monday will be. That's because people are used to the April 15 deadline. This year the federal government extended the deadline because the 15 falls on a Sunday.

Although the government gives you until mid April those filing the taxes say the earlier the better, and with the last minute filers they say it can be hard to break the news.

"If they're getting a refund, or don't owe much they're a lot happier than if I go, oh you owe a big amount. I've always said come in early because even if you owe a big amount you have time to put it together. It's pretty hard now, today if I tell you you owe a big amount, to have to get that money together by Tuesday night,” said Cheryl Bacon, H&R Block.

Although Cheryl Bacon says the earlier the better, her office and many other CPAs are working longer hours to make sure everyone can get in before Tuesday night. Her best piece of advice, make sure you have all the paperwork you need with you when you go to your tax preparer.
