FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - So what can you and I do to save a few bucks at the pump?
AAA has some gas saving ideas and they could be some ideas you haven't thought of.
Did you know that accelerating slowly, breaking gently and avoiding hard stops can save fuel?
How about each time you let your vehicle idle you burn more gas as opposed to shutting it off and restarting?
AAA says idling consumes at least half-a-gallon of gas per hour you idle, especially when driving during rush hour.
Cheryle Stump with AAA says, “The more you sit in traffic, the more fuel you're going to go through. And also some folks don't know that it takes more gas to idle than it does to restart your engine a lot of times. So the less you have to sit around and idle in the traffic, the more fuel efficient your car will be.”
AAA also says to give your car a full tune-up.
They say dirty engines can increase fuel consumption by 50-percent.
