WABASH COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- Mississenewa Lake has had an advisory issued for Blue-Green Algae by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Swimming and boating is still allowed but direct contact with the algae is completely discouraged. If you do get in, the DNR advises you take a shower afterwards and it is recommended you keep your pets out of the water.
Blue-green algae can produce toxins that cause rashes, skin and eye irritation, nausea, stomach aches, and tingling extremities.
