GLOBAL (www.incnow.tv) -- A United Nations foods agency is pushing for a new type of diet, edible insects.

The Food and Agriculture Organization says the food source ranks high in nutritional value and is better for the environment.

A new report from the FAO says two billion people around the world already have insects as part of their diet. Insects are high in protein, need far less feed than cattle per kilogram and produce far less greenhouse gas than pigs per kilo.

Most edible insects are gathered in fields and forests, but the FAO says improved technology can make them available to the masses.
