Underground Transformers Explode In Downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) -- Businesses in downtown Indianapolis have been evacuated this afternoon after explosions rang out from underground.

According to RTV6, the Indianapolis Fire Department said the explosions were caused by a failed transformer in an underground vault near Meridian and Maryland streets. Smaller explosions were also triggered under nearby manhole covers.

No injuries have been reported.
