INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (21Alive) -- Sunday was the big race but Monday is a completely different type of day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The day after the race sees a large effort to clean the speedway up, which is littered with trash from the 300,000 spectators attending the race. Volunteers swoop in to help clean up the mess and can earn money for the various groups they represent.
According to RTV6, one of the volunteer groups is Indy Honor Flight who will use money earned to help cover the flights for veterans.
Many of the groups have to wait on a waiting list just to pick up garbage at the speedway. The wait can be up to two years.
