FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Fort Wayne Mayor, Tom Henry, and other elected officials welcomed the public to the Wells Street Bridge lighting ceremony Friday, December 20th.

The switch flipped at 5:30pm, marking the end of a month-long installation.

The city invested $121,000 in Legacy funding as part of the Downtown Overpass Beautification and Lighting Initiative.

Many from the Summit City braved the rain to watch the historical moment.

“I’m amazed and shocked at how many people showed up to this. There’s probably a couple hundred people here, maybe more. On a rainy night, a Friday night, I think that shows the appreciation this local community has for this structure,” said Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director, Al Moll.

The lights are expected to be up year-round for all to enjoy.
