FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A Fort Wayne woman and her dog are safe this morning after escaping a burning home on the 4200 block South Lafayette Street early Friday.

The fire sparked shortly after 3AM. The woman told fire officials that she was sleeping at the time. She was awoken by a loud bang. When she got up to investigate the sound, she discovered the front of the home engulfed in flames.

Fire crews immediately got to work on the fire, and were able to put it under control within 20 minutes of arriving on scene.

No one was hurt in the fire, but the home did sustain heavy smoke, fire and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
