ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Roughly 1100 Allen County properties will hit the auction block Wednesday, because the owners are behind on paying their taxes.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson will kept his $276,000 home in the Village of Buckingham addition out of the delinquent tax sale, because he paid the $4,500 tax bill in full Tuesday afternoon.
If all the properties in the sale are purchased, the county treasurer could collect close to $3.3 million in owed back taxes.
Allen County Treasurer Susan Orth says, “It would be nice if we could get all of that, not have any delinquencies, but that never happens. If we can sell half of the properties, we're doing really well."
Even if a property does sell, the original owners will have one full year to pay the tax bill, plus interest and penalties, to keep it and prevent it from slipping through their fingers.
