FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's Newscenter)--
There's been a resolution to an insurance dispute that we first featured two weeks ago.
Watching someone drive into your front porch is bad enough, but then being asked to pay 11-hundred dollars of the repairs would seem to be adding insult to injury. The driver's insurance company, 21st Century Insurance told Heather Everage in a letter, that the settlement amount was due to a "betterment clause". After contesting the offer for weeks, Heather came to us.
Heather Everage "the very next day, after it aired, I get a phone call saying they were sending me the full amount".
While an Explanation for the change didn't come with the check, that's was ok with Heather, she's just happy to have the incident behind her and she's excited about repairing her home.
"I'm ready for my porch to look normal now"
The insurance company did the right thing in making sure Heather didn't have to pay for an accident that wasn't her fault.
We also have two other warnings to pass along. The first involves a deal for free gas that consumers have found to be not nearly what they expected.
It's commonly retailers and Vacation clubs that tout the cards, we were contacted recently by a local man, saying his $500 voucher required him to spend 100 each month for a $25 dollar voucher, bottom line, stay away, the company, Tidewater Marketing, out of Clearwater is now being sued by the Florida Attorney General after amassing thousands of complaints.
And with the heart of tax season always comes a number of scams, an e-mail circulating is promising that you're eligible for a refund of 189 dollars, the problem is it's not from the IRS. One local CPA correctly pointed out to us, the IRS e-mail would be IRS.GOV and not the bogus .Com email used in the scam. Both are examples of why experts warn consumers if it looks to good to be true, it usually is.
